An oil rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico late last week didn’t cause another oil leak, and the people of New Orleans are
breathing a sigh of relief. After the nightmare that was the Gulf Oil Spill disaster, we couldn’t afford to take another hit. The cleanup efforts are ongoing, and already billions of dollars in revenue has been lost.
See a Video of the oil rig explosion here.
All 13 workers that were on the platform were rescued, and the oil cutoff emergency valves worked as expected. This could have been another tragedy had the seven oil producing wells from the platform failed to get cut off.
The fire damage on the rig is said to be minimal, and the rig will begin production again in a couple of months.
Now that the BP oil spill is completed, and the Mariner platform didn’t cause any major problems in the Gulf, hopefully New Orleans can have several years without any major issues like another oil rig explosion or oil leak.
