The 2010 New York City Marathon hosted by ING Bank took place today. The New York City Marathon was a big e
vent, with people going around 26.2 miles through five city boroughs in one of the most dynamic cities in the world. It’s no easy feat to run 26 miles, but having a backdrop like NYC is great.
The top men were: Gebre Gebrmariam of Ethiopia (2:08:14); Emmanuel Mutai of Keyna (2:09:18); and Moses Kigen Kipkosgei who is from Kenya as well (2:10:39).
The top women were: Edna Kiplagat of Kenya (2:28:20); Shalane Flanagan of America (2:28:40); and Mary Keitany, also of Kenya (2:29:01).
Shalane Flanagan was making her marathon debut, and was hoping for a win. If only she would have ran twenty seconds faster she would have won. Instead, it was a Kenyan who won – with four of the top six contenders from Kenya.
Also at the New York City Marathon was Edison Pena, the Chilean miner who trained for the marathon running through tunnels at the mine where he was trapped. YOU CAN SEE A VIDEO OF PENA HERE.
Al Roker, Robin Quivers, and Bobby Flay were among the celebrities at the marathon. Bobby Flay’s goal was to finish in under four hours, which he missed barely finishing the marathon at 4:01:37.
Meredith Viera ran the race in 5:59, and Al Roker – also of the Today Show – ran it in 7:09. Robin Quivers, Howard Stern’s co-host ran in 6:09.
Jared from Subway ran the marathon in 5:13, hoping just that he could make it through the race.
It’s amazing to think of all those who were able to run 26.2 miles today. The New York City marathon 2010 results are inspirational, and one day I hope to run it as well.
