In the wake of sweeping Election Day defeats for Democrats that included the Party’s loss of the House of Representatives, President Obama held a news conference in the White House on Wednesday, conceding that Washington needs to work better. “As I reflect on the results of the election, it underscores for me that I’ve got to do a better job,” the president said. “We were in such a hurry to get things done, we didn’t change how we got things done.” How he gets things done in the second half of his ...

The 2010 Washington State Election Results are not available yet for the Senate race.  Dino Rossi is hoping to dethrone the incumbent Democratic Senator Patty Murray, but so far that doesn't look like it is going to happen. Regardless, it's one of those neck-and-neck elections that could not be called for days. Why? Washington State accepts mail-in ballots only. This means that all of the mail-in ballots must be collected and compiled into results before they can be reported, and with a close race it's highly unlikely ...

California marijuana legalization 2010 (AKA "Prop 19") did not pass.  There are many people out there upset that California didn't pass the 2010 marijuana legalization measure that was on the ballot  The entire nation was watching this measure, because if the state passed the proposition, it could have paved the way for widespread legalization. Currently, you can use marijuana in California, but only if you have a medical necessity.  Some are quick to point out that this is as simple as claiming you have depression, severe anxiety, or ...

California Sen. Barbara Boxer held off a stiff challenge from Republican Carly Fiorina to win a fourth term Tuesday. The Los Angeles Times and Associated Press called the election soon after polls closed. With about 30 percent of precincts reporting, Boxer led her GOP rival, 49 percent to 45 percent, Southern California television stations reported. Fiorina’s bid to upend Boxer took an unexpected turn last week when she fell ill.  The former chairman and CEO of Hewlett-Packard was hospitalized with an infection linked to recent cancer surgery.  After receiving antibiotics overnight, ...

Jerry Brown, a two-term governor during the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, recaptured California’s top job Tuesday, edging Republican rival Meg Whitman by five points, major media outlets reported. Despite just 11 percent of precincts reporting, major California television stations and newspapers called the election for Brown. Early in the vote counting, he led Whitman 50 percent to 45 percent. “I think it’s going to be very tough for the next year or two because all signs point to some very hard decisions,” Brown said Tuesday. “We’re in a very tough fix, but if we all pull together I think California can ...

With 96 percent of precincts reporting, Republican U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk led Democrat businessman Alexi Giannoulias by a 48.4 percent to 46.0 percent margin, the Chicago Tribune reported. No winner had been declared as of 11 p.m. CDT. The race holds special significance, as it was the seat Barack Obama used to catapult himself to the White House in 2008. Democrats were desperate to hold it; Republicans viewed it as a symbolic prize in their stunning gains nationally. The bitter race eventually became a battle of flawed candidates. Characterizations of Kirk as ...

In a contest that ultimately could shape the balance of power in the U.S. Senate, Democrat Chris Coons pulled off an easy victory in a race Republicans thought they had all but sewn up early this year. With just 4 percent of precincts reporting, NBC called the race for Coons, the New Castle County executive, who beat Republican Christine O’Donnell, 65 percent to 37 percent. In the GOP primary, O’Donnell portrayed U.S. Rep. Mike Castle as too liberal. Those assertions ...

In an apparent about-face by West Virginia voters, Democrat Gov. Joe Manchin captured the state’s Senate race by an 11-point margin, NBC News has projected. “Tomorrow starts the rebuilding,“ said Manchin, who won 54 percent of the vote to Republican John Raese’s 43 percent. “We acknowledge that Washington is broken. I’ve said this on the campaign trail, when you put your Party first, or your political agenda second, and the country last, it doesn’t work.” As recently as a week ago, Manchin trailed his Republican rival by seven points, a Rasmussen Reports ...

The U.S. Senate race with the most high-profile candidates – three – also had the least amount of suspense, as Fox News declared Republican Marco Rubio the winner just moments after polls closed in the Sunshine State. Rubio, the former Speaker of the state House of Representatives, cruised to victory, garnering 50 percent of the vote. Gov. Charlie Crist, who was running as an Independent, got 29 percent. Democrat U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek finished a distant third, attracting just 20 percent of the vote. “All a victory means today is ...

Prop19 recent news & updates are available. Prop19 is the controversial proposed legislation in California which would legalize marijuana for consumption and sale.  The legalization of pot is quite controversial, although you would think that the issue would be a sure win during the elections. However, much like with prohibition of the past, the Prop19 is met with strong opposition. Those who do not support the measure note that the legislation as it stands as written wasn't well thought out.  It sets no taxation standards, and leaves the taxes ...
