What is Tin disulfide?

Tin disulfide is an inorganic compound that has the chemical formula SnS2. It is the yellow hexagonal flake which has the CdI2 cristal structure. It isn't soluble in water, however it's water-soluble in aqua regia. It is also soluble in hot alkaline liquids, and also in sodium sulfide Solution, often used as gold paint.

Tin disulfide is soluble in hot alkali and in aqua regia solution. It can undergo coordination reactions with concentrated hydrochloric acid. However, it is insoluble in dilute hydrochloric acids and insoluble in water and nitric acid. It can also react with ammonium sulfide to dissolve.

Tin disulfide can easily be obtained through the direct combination of tin with sulfur with the iodine. The reaction involves heat:

Electrochemical behavior of multi-walled carbon nitrotubes enclosed to tin disulfide, the negative electrodes of lithium ion battery

Direct current arc plasma technique was used to create multi-walled carbon nanotube-confined metal tin Nanostructures (Sn@MWCNT) as the precursor in methane atmosphere, and then SnS_2@MWCNT was obtained by this sulfurization. The results of physical analysis of the materials, such as Raman, X-ray diffraction (XRD) as well as Transmission electron Microscopy (TEM) confirmed that the length of multi-walled carbon-carbon nanotubes was 400nm. Study on electrochemical performance of tin disulfide/single-walled carbon nanotube composite material used as anode material for lithium-ion battery

A novel composite made up of SnS2 along with carbon nanotubes that are single-walled (SWCNTs) was prepared by simple solvothermal methods. When the current density is high of 1 A/g 100 cycles still has a reversible capacity of more than 510 milliamps/g. In order to compare, we applied similar methods to synthesize one SnS2 material, and conduct electrical tests with it. The results show that although the initial performance of SnS2 material is large, the performance of its cycles is not great, and decays quickly after less than 20 cycles. The exceptional efficiency of the composite in batteries made from lithium is believed to be due to the synergy of the two ingredients which are SnS2 along with SWCNTs.
